Practice 8
This week is my eighth
week of doing yoga at home via the internet. I choose to do a YouTube video for
this week’s practice, “30 min Full Body Yoga - Intermediate Vinyasa Yoga”. The
video was 30 minutes long, but this session took me an hour to do. Using a YouTube
video allowed me to pause the video whenever I had trouble with a pose to make
sure I am doing it correctly. It starts with laying on the ground and crossing
your legs while bringing them to your chest. Right leg over the left then
switch. Putting arms out then twisting your hips to one side then the other helped
me with stretching my lower back. A pause was taken in between each pose and
between switching to the other side. I prefer to start in the ground like how
this video is because it prepares me for the standing positions. My muscles
feel more stretched out and I can go just a little further when the class
starts with floor positions. Next was kneeling with hands on the ground while
moving the spine up and down in a swooping motion. Side plank was difficult
because my arms are not strong enough to hold that position for a long period of
time. Balancing on one leg and pushing the other in front of you then
backward, keeping my balance was hard and I often found myself putting both
feet on the ground. The next pose was hard to balance and hold the pose correctly.
It is required to sit on your ankles and bring one leg straight out while the other
food is still under your rear. Then to touch my stretched-out foot's toes while
balancing on just my other leg took me the longest to accomplish. Especially when
bringing the arms up behind your back and only balance with your head on your
knee. I did use items like books to use as blocks to help with my balance but finding
an object the right size was challenging. I believe that this intermediate class was too advanced for me because most of the poses required balancing and my balance is
not at that level yet. In the future, I may try this again but for now, I am going
to focus on the basics.
